Event Venues: 5 Key Sustainability Factors to Consider
Discover how to optimize your venue selection with My Impact Tool's key tips and solutions for reducing environmental impact.
Be it in terms of mobility, energy management, or equipment installation, the choice of venue for an event will have a significant impact on the environment, and this will need to be optimized.
The choice of venue for a sustainable event should take into account 5 key factors:
- Energy source (electricity, gas, oil, etc.)
- Water
- Waste management
- Mobility
- Equipment, materials, and logistics.
In general, the following main principles should be followed:
- Favor venues that are closest to where participants are located (see Mobility sheet) and that offer interesting mobility facilities (bike parking, close to public transport, …).
2. Choose your venue according to the season (to limit energy consumption for heating or cooling) and the energy performance of the building.
3. Select venues with adequate infrastructure and equipment (to avoid/limit installation and logistics transport).
4. If the venue requires suppliers (e.g. for catering or technology), use those with the most sustainable suppliers.
5. Choose a venue ready to discuss environmental issues and provide the data required to calculate the impact.
